Thank you for this newsletter! Question for you... I’m curious about sleep hygiene for new parents. I’m not a parent yet but it’s something I’m thinking about and wondering how to keep up with sleep especially when it seems impossible to have healthy sleep habits with newborns.
Hey Ashley, thanks for reading! Great question... I hear this a lot from new parents who are having trouble getting high quality sleep. I am also not a parent, but I think the answer to your question comes back to Guideline #1: Don’t obsess or stress over sleep.
As a parent with young kids, I think you have to accept that your sleep may not be optimal for that period of your life. You should still try to get enough sleep and to do your best ensure that any sleep you do get is of high quality (by following the other guidelines in this article). You may also consider napping when possible or incorporating a practice such as non-sleep deep rest (https://www.longevityminded.ca/p/non-sleep-deep-rest-nsdr).
