Using non-sleep deep rest (NSDR) to boost energy or enhance learning
Happy Thursday!
The last few newsletters were a little long.
Let’s keep this one short, sweet, and value-packed.
Non-sleep deep rest (NSDR)
Non-sleep deep rest (NSDR), or yoga nidra, is a type of rest used to relax your mind and body.
Similarly to sleep, NSDR involves slowing down your brain wave frequency but with the key distinction that you remain awake.
When should I use NSDR? What are the benefits?
If you feel tired, run-down, or burnt out during the day and need a reset or energy boost, do an NSDR protocol.
If you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back asleep, consider doing an NSDR protocol upon waking.
Within 1 hour after a learning session, do an NSDR protocol. Alternatively, you could take a brief 20-minute nap to derive the same benefit. Studies have shown that NSDR and shallow naps can enhance the rate and depth of learning.
How do I perform NSDR?
You have a few options for NSDR practices:
Go to Youtube and search “yoga nidra.”
Listen to this 10-minute script (great for daily use) or this longer 25-minute video.
Use the Reveri app. It’s a self-hypnosis app that’s backed by decades of scientific research and clinical experience designed to change your mind and improve your life. Reveri helps users relieve stress and insomnia, better manage their pain perception, and build new healthier habits for eating, problem-solving, and more.
That’s all folks!
Finish the week strong and have a great weekend.
And if you need an energy boost or a mental and physical reset, give NSDR a try and let me know how it goes.
Much love,
Jack
