Jack - straight to the point! This is an information nutrient-dense piece, and without any of the jargon too. A great starter-guide for anyone thinking, "Now what?"
Also, I heard longevity scientist Valter Longo speak about his research on the "Fasting Mimicking Diet" - only 5 days, 4x/year for pretty astounding results. You might enjoy his book: https://www.valterlongo.com/the-longevity-diet/
Thanks for your help on this piece Maymie! This was my first time collaborating and I really enjoyed it.
I've heard of the FMD and have it noted down to try at some point but haven't gotten to it. I'll add the book back to the top of my list -- reading it may be the kick I need to give it a try!
Jack + Maymie, love it! This is such a succinct, perfect breakdown. Will save and share widely.
The saddest thing about SAD is that it's now global, as your story tells. Also, thanks for the reminder I need to put journaling and push-ups back into my AM routine
Thanks Jonny! I appreciate you. You are absolutely right -- that's a very salient point. The SAD is a global diet now which many people around the world default to.
It's a great way to start the morning. My pleasure!
No I actually haven’t heard of lean mass hyper responders before. This is interesting. From a quick google search it appears that LMHRs may see a rise in LDL when on a carb restricted diet which could increase risk for ASCVD.
Why do you ask? Is this something you’re researching lately?
I went carnivore for 90 days to treat IBD and it worked. My LDL went from 130 to 450. Trigs came down to the lowest ever at 53 and HDL went higher than ever up to 89. It’s remarkable. I feel good tho. Doctor is freaking out! Haha. Dave Feldman has some great info out there and he’s doing a study on it right now with actually people like me.
Super interesting. Awesome to hear your TG are down and HDL is higher. Is that an LDL-C of 450? Do you have any concerns with LDL that high? Are you keeping an eye on apoB?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, always curious when it comes to lipid health!
I hear ya! It is a fascinating topic that we have much to learn about!
Correct; LDL is 450. Never have I ever even heard of a number that high and we checked it twice. My triglycerides to HDL ratio is .67 so that would indicate larger size LDL, pattern A LDL overall.
Which may be a good thing. I was very concerned at first and have spent 3 weeks straight diving into it. I have a lipid specialist visit coming up and I will talk to them about the ApoB. Primary care doctor has no clue.
My body fat is under 10% and I’m 50. BP is 110/65. I feel pretty metabolically healthy. It’s hard for me to give up the carnivore as my IBD has greatly improved. Time will tell! Keep up the great work buddy 💪
Yeah that is crazily high. Neither have I! Sounds like you're all over it though... experimenting, researching, testing, speaking with professionals.
Certainly, would be tough to give up a diet that has been so effective in curing your IBD. Plus you're super lean and BP is good. As far as I know, apoB is the most important biomarker in assessing ASCVD risk as all atherosclerotic particles have an apoB protein signature.
You may already know him, but if you're looking for more lipid info, Thomas Dayspring is a great resource.
Keep me posted on any updates. Love hearing about this stuff.

As Justin said, this is a great combo. What a valuable, special message.
Thank you for enlightening me, and others, Jack and Maymie.
Thanks for reading and for your support Anthony! You’re the man.
Maymie + Jack = power combo. Highly informative read and an important message.
Thanks Justin! Maymie is a profound source of knowledge. It was a pleasure to have her help me out on this one!
Love the collaboration. Such a neat idea to integrate in a different & valuable perspective.
Awesome piece mon frere
Muchas gracias, hermano.
Thanks Jack! Eye opening in regard to intermittent fasting.
I have a question~if you have cream in your coffee in the morning, does that break your fast?
🩵
Thank you for reading Margaret!
Great question. The answer depends what you’re fasting for. Zero Longevity has a great article on this: https://zerolongevity.com/blog/will-it-break-my-fast/
If you’re fasting just for weight loss, their verdict is that coffee + cream does not break your fast. But if you’re fasting for gut rest, it does.
Great article! Do you have any experience with lean mass hyper responders in association with low carb diets?

Will do! And thank you for that resource. I will check him out.
Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware that women have a hormonal effect so profound.
Neither was I! Thanks for reading, Stan.
