I was born and raised in Calgary and spent a great deal of time in Banff but, unfortunately, it was partying and not hiking or backpacking.
I've since returned to hike the back country and it is amazing. I wonder why I didn't realize what I had in my backyard the whole time I was growing up.
Are you hiking the Rockies alone or with a group?
In a group! Three of us were hiking together. The back country can be very dangerous... especially if you are alone.

I'm based in Toronto but try to make it to the West coast once a year. It's stunning out there.
We always take what we have in our own backyard for granted - so you're not alone in that!
