I'm struck by the notion that all of this fruit on your 2023 tree is ripening on the limbs of a family tree. It's actually one of the most inspiring things about your presence here, your connection to your family of origin, how close you stay to those roots, how you are carrying it into your own relationship, and the result is a deep and stable capacity for growth. You have something special going personally and in the context of your family system. Those connections are a form of health that cannot be underestimated.

Thanks so much for noticing and calling that out Rick. I place a really high value on family. The two biggest blessings in my life I’ve had zero control over: the country and family which I was born into. I love this: “a deep and stable capacity for growth” -- that’s what I’m striving towards. Thanks for your kind words and happy new year to you and yours.

Love the format of this review. I’m sure this is something that will age like a fine wine. Super valuable to look back on and remember what your year consisted of.

Very impressive mix of travel and fitness and relationships.

Loved your summary and this format and seeing how connected you are to the people in your life. Congratulations on 85 consecutive posts, publishing 3 ebooks, and thank you for introducing me to Noah Kahan!

Biggest wins - Starting Substack with Write of Passage in October and writing 13 essays

Brightest memories - Spending time with my kids. My son taught me how to boulder. My daughter teaches me how to be a better friend.

Best lessons learned - Hands down, the power of writing through conversation

Thanks so much for sharing Miche! Makes me happy to hear you enjoyed this. Noah Kahan is fantastic and the more I listen, the more I love his music.

Those are wonderful. I know those wins, memories, and lessons will all carry into 2024 with the clarity you've gained around writing and Unstuck in 15. Happy New Year to you and your kids :)

Thanks so much John :) I was inspired by your annual recap essay to put something like this together so kudos to you. Absolutely will do! More long runs, writing, and travel to come in the new year. I’m equally excited to continue reading your work in 2024!

Anthony! Thanks for your support pal, I appreciate you. You've inspired me to aim for longer runs this year (I just got my Polar H10 set up yesterday so I can dial in my training). I'm excited to see what you accomplish in 2024 and will be following closely along with your writing. Happy 2024!
