“If more information was the answer, then we'd all be billionaires with perfect abs.” ― Derek Sivers
Paying Members get access to exclusive content like From Stiff to Supple and The Complete Breathwork Manual ebooks and my Outlive Book Notes.
But this month, it’s your turn to produce a piece of long-form content of your own.
Everything I write is only useful if it’s implemented. We rarely need more information. We almost always need more and better implementation.
So Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! Pick up a pen. It’s time for you to do the writing…
Step 1: YearCompass
YearCompass has been part of my year-end reflection and year-forward planning for a few years.
Download the free booklet here and print it off to complete this exercise with pen and paper.
Do not do this practice on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone. It’s essential to complete any reflection and planning practices without technology.
Tip: Print off an extra package for your significant other and block out time to complete your booklets together. Once you’re done, share with each other.
Step 2: The Timeline Practice
For more background on this practice, you can read one of my most popular articles to date: How Timeline Planning Transformed My Life.
If you want to skip the background and get to the practice, here are the instructions…
The Timeline Practice Instructions
Grab a legal-sized sheet of paper and your favourite pen.
Position the paper in landscape orientation and draw a timeline down the middle.
Label it with months or quarters — whatever makes sense to you.
Think about your year in seasons. Sketch out what you want your life to look like in each of those seasons (months or quarters).
What are your main priorities for each period?
What kind of person do you wish to become?
Where are you going to be geographically?
What experiences do you want to have?
What people will you be with?
Update through the year as your priorities change and plans come to fruition.
Step 3: Bonus Questions and Practices
The following reflection practices are optional, but I’ve found them to be extremely beneficial in my own life.
Experiment, apply what you find to be useful, and discard the rest.
